Update

Well, it has been a while since I've blogged on here. Between camp, the rain, (and did I mention the rain?), the trench was dug for the water line. It was very interesting watching the guys tap into the main city water line without creating a flood in the hole. They were also working in very close proximity to a fiber optic cable, which basically contains massive amounts of data for the city, which if it was accidentally cut into or punctured could cost a minimum of $10,000 per minute to fix, or so they said. So, long story short, we made sure that we didn't hire any bulls for that china closet! Anyway...the trench has been dug, the water line laid and the sewer lines have been put in. As of today, they (Bro. Ben and Bro. White) have also repaired the sidewalk that we had to cut into to get to the water line. We've had so much help with this project so far. We appreciate Bro. Dustin and Bro. Adam loaning their time (which is always valuable) and retaining the use of their employer's backhoe to dig the trenches and move dirt for us. The church was only out the cost of the gas for it and it was a huge blessing to be able to not have to hire all that done! Thanks to Bro. White for overseeing this project, and all those who have spent time over here as well. Pastor Huffman, Bro. Huffman, Sr., Bro. Sam, Bro. Gabriel, Bro. Jordan, Bro. Doug, Bro. Fitzgerald, Bro. Wilkins, Bro. Adam, Bro. Dustin, Bro. Ben, and the kiddos...Rion, Dylan, Sidney, Jacob, Kaitlyn, Kassidy & Jared (smile), although sometimes we might could do without the little ones helping! : ) The next step is to finish roughing the plumbing, then pouring the basement floor. That will hopefully happen soon. We are working estimates for the framing part as well. Until next time, keep us in your prayers!

Digging trenches for the water line

The trenches were roughly 8 feet deep, and eventually filled to the brim with rain water when we had a few bad storms roll through

Work Panoramics

Work in Progress

Work in Progress...

This past week, about Wednesday and Thursday, they removed the forms off of the walls. Then on Good Friday, the workers came and "tarred" the basement walls....sealant for protection from weather conditions, so they look black on the outside now. On Saturday, the day before Easter, we had a "church work day" and several volunteered their time and shovels to dig the trench around the basement so the plumbing can be put in. Tonight, they were supposed to haul in the pea-gravel for it, but I guess that is off for tonight...the weather is very chilly...more like fall than spring...and we were expecting rain. So far, that has bypassed us! Looking forward to the next phase! I'm posting another slideshow of the recent work.

POURING BASEMENT WALLS 4-02-09

POURED BASEMENT WALLS

Thursday, 4-2-09, the crew finished putting up the forms and then about 1:30 or 2 p.m., brought in 4 concrete trucks and a lot of workers. Poured basement walls....has to set at least 12 hours...they said they will leave them up longer just to make sure. Today, they are supposed to remove the forms from around the walls....then we will see what it really looks like. The plumbing comes next....YAY!

April 1, 2009: This is no April Fool's Joke!

The forms are just about all in place....they will finish in the morning. Plans are to pour the basement walls tomorrow afternoon. We're very excited; can't wait to see it! God truly is "bigger than all our problems, bigger than anything, God is bigger than any mountain that I can or cannot see." Without Him, none of this would be possible.

Another panoramic shot

The forms are up in place ready for the concrete to be poured.

Well, it has been really crazy around here. Yesterday (3-30-09) the CAT arrived around 9 o'clock a.m. to dig out the "trenches" to lay the footings for the basement. Then around 3:30, about 16-17 workers began pouring the concrete using 2 concrete trucks, which alternated back and forth mixing and pouring. They worked as late as needed to make sure they got it all poured last night since we were expecting some "winter" weather today. It was a beautiful day yesterday, except extremely windy! It has snowed a little today, not enough to speak of, or stick...which I am more than happy about, but it is certainly cold. IT IS SUPPOSED TO BE SPRING! It should be warm! But anyway, today they are laying the forms so they can pour the basement walls. It feels so good to just walk out there and look and see that there is actually something tangible in sight. I'm adding another slideshow of the pics from yesterday and some today. Hope you enjoy. : )
